ABOUT
Flow State
/flō stāt/ (n.)
Defined in positive psychology as an optimal state of consciousness where a person becomes completely absorbed in an activity. It’s characterized by a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity itself, often referred to as being “in the zone.”
The Studio
Founded in 2019 by artist Devin Mullane, Flow State Art Studio is built on the pursuit of the optimal creative experience: where skill meets challenge, and artistry flows freely.
This duality is expressed through two primary methods:
Precision Craftsmanship - materials like wood and paper are cut and engraved using a state-of-the-art laser cutting machine, achieving geometric perfection and exact, repeatable detail.
Abstract Intuition - acrylic paint pouring techniques are harnessed to produce stunning, one-of-a-kind original paintings, embracing chance and the liberating concept of simply "going with the flow."
Based in Columbus, Ohio, The Studio prides itself on unmatched artistry and enduring craftsmanship, committed to producing high-impact, original artwork. Giclée (digital) prints of original paintings are also available for purchase on premium, archival materials designed to last for generations.
For a truly unique touch, all frames encasing The Studio's artwork (if included) are custom-made and hand-finished by the artist.
A Note from the Artist
Thank you for visiting Flow State Art Studio—I’m Devin, and it’s a pleasure to meet you.
Finding Flow in Nature
Growing up in the small town of Oscoda in northeast Michigan, I spent countless hours outdoors: swimming in lakes, canoeing in rivers, and exploring deep in the woods. The raw power and serenity of nature left a lasting impression on me.
Today, the fluid paintings I create are direct reflections of this experience—using color combinations and motion to capture the depths of the earth, the organic movement of water, and shifting natural light. These natural elements, alongside symbolism and a love for simple, organic, and minimalistic design, also inspire the complex patterns found in my laser-cut and engraved works.
Inspiration to Explore Artistry
I am fortunate to have several creative people in my family who inspired and encouraged me to explore my artistic side, but my Mom, Diana Mullane, was my greatest influence. She was an incredibly talented artist capable of creating beautiful artwork using multiple mediums, though she preferred painting with watercolors. The example she set for me in life was simple and one I’m profoundly grateful for: be yourself and do what makes you happy. She was my inspiration to explore artistry.
Sadly, Diana developed Alzheimer’s disease (as did her mother before her) and slowly lost the ability to create art as her health declined. Though she passed in January 2021 at the age of 74, her life—and her struggle—became the powerful inspiration behind the creation of Flow State Art Studio: a commitment to living life fully and creating beauty while we have the ability to do so.
The Mission: Art for Alzheimer’s
Over 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, and it’s become the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S., taking more lives than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
Watching Alzheimer’s disease slowly take a loved one is devastating and, unfortunately, these statistics mean there are millions of you out there experiencing that devastation. My heart goes out to your loved ones going through a decline, and all of you doing your best to care for them.
Flow State Art Studio’s mission is to help create a world without Alzheimer’s, so when you purchase artwork from The Studio, 10% of the profits are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to help find a cure.
This isn’t just art; this is art with a purpose. This is Art for Alzheimer’s.
